Jared Barrett for Oldham County School Board District 1
(Goshen/Prospect – Representing North Oldham High School, North Oldham Middle School, Harmony Elementary School, and Goshen Elementary School)
🏫 My name is Jared Barrett and I’m running for Oldham County School Board District 1. I ask for your vote November 5th. Call or text me at 615-995-6724 or email me at barrett4schoolboard@gmail.com to discuss any issues you are concerned about regarding Oldham County Schools. Thanks, Jared
What would be your top priority if elected? Finding ways to retain and support our teachers and support staff (custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, etc). Besides increasing their pay so we can match pay scales of surrounding school districts, we need to get creative. We should extend our existing preschool services to our teachers and staff; offer cash incentives to encourage teachers who to teach our harder to fill subjects (Math, Science, and Special Education). We continue to have unfilled positions throughout the district including two custodial positions at the school my daughters attend. We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. Like many in District 1, I moved here for the schools and to see our schools struggle to retain teachers is impacting our teachers, staff, and students. We also need to be more concerned about and identify the root causes of why teachers and staff are leaving our schools rather than focus on window dressing such as logo redesigns, mission statements, and bi-yearly newsletters. We need our district leadership to listen to our teachers and staff when they voice concerns or problems and not make them feel like they will be retaliated against for speaking up.
What is the biggest issue facing this office? Selecting our new superintendent to lead Oldham County Schools will be the biggest issue for our district. We need to make sure to listen to teachers, parents, taxpayers, and students to find out what they want in a new superintendent. We need to have community listening sessions throughout the district so we can gather information from the whole community on what they are looking for in our next superintendent. I will be looking for someone who demonstrates being a servant leader; who will be fiscally conservative, and who will listen to teachers and staff and not ignore them or make them feel like they were not heard. We should look both within and outside the district for a superintendent.

It was my pleasure to serve with Jared Barrett on the Murfreesboro City School Board starting in 2016. When I joined the school board after my election, Jared was sure to welcome me with open arms and friendship. I found him to be a very knowledgeable and conscientious board member who loved the work of helping and advocating on behalf of our kids,
Jared is a loving family man and public servant. In my years working with him he proved over and over again that he loved doing what was best for the community, particularly those who were not quite yet able to speak up for themselves. The board members all respected his intelligence, drive, and commitment to do what was right.
As our legislative committee member, he always kept us up to date on what was going on in the State legislature that would potentially affect how we did our jobs. He was very instrumental in helping us move to a system of conducting our meetings that were more in line with current procedures, i.e., electronic delivery of the agenda, etc.
We were very sad when Jared moved away from our district to pursue better opportunities for himself and his family, but overjoyed to see that his desire remains the same; serve the community by serving its youngest and most precious citizens, those in the public school systems.
I highly recommend Jared for the office of school board member, your community will be blessed to have him “On Board”.

Julie Bucalos – Former Harmony Elementary School SDMB Parent Representative
I had the opportunity to work with Jared Barrett as parent representatives on Harmony’s SBDM during the 2020-2021 school year. Jared consistently demonstrated professionalism while supporting teachers and advocating what was best for students. Jared participated fully in conversations, considered alternative opinions, and was always cooperative. Jared is a parent who cares about education, students, and teachers. I found him to be an advocate for public schools and an individual with great integrity. I’m voting for him for OC school board because I know him to be approachable, sensible, and honest. It is clear he loves his family and cares about his community. I’ve also served with Jared on Harmony’s PTA board. Again, he demonstrated full commitment, no ego, and did whatever was needed to support students and teachers. I can’t think of a better advocate for OC schools than Jared. I wholeheartedly endorse him for OC School Board!
